Financial Assistance
Graduate assistantships offer students the opportunity to fund a portion of their graduate studies while contributing to work in the Department. If awarded, teaching and research assistantships vary in amount. The average assistantship offers include a full or partial tuition waiver and a working monthly stipend. In exchange for this award, a student commits to teaching an average of 20 hours a week.
Graduate assistantships are awarded on a competitive basis. Factors considered in making assistantship awards include fit of previous professional experiences with Department's teaching or research needs, GRE scores, GPA, letters of recommendation, writing proficiency (as demonstrated in Statement of Purpose), and portfolio work (if applicable). To be considered for assistantships and University fellowships, the Department must receive application materials by February 1 for fall semester entry and by August 1 for spring semester entry.
