Introduction

Program Perspective
The program's vision is to aspire to provide a dynamic, high-quality undergraduate program that draws its strength from the integration of diverse research and outreach experiences of an active group of faculty/scholars. (October, 2000 Interior Design Vision Statement)

Philosophy

Faculty in the CSU Interior Design program place value in:

  • learning as a collaborative effort inviting diversity: faculty bring to the program a range of experiences with substantial depth in their respective areas of expertise; faculty in the program work in partnership with faculty from three other departments to maintain the integrity of the program content; diversity of approaches, language and concept make the program vital and invite discourse about interior design.
  • design research as the root of excellence in design practice: interior design research which appropriately informs decision-making in solving the challenges of the built environment is the foundation upon which faculty build their teaching and learning agendas; faculty are significantly engaged in research and scholarly work that informs their teaching.
  • new models for learning to respond to new ways of working: faculty and students are engaged in methods of information delivery that embrace technology, time and the lessening importance of physical location for the generation of ideas.
